Let the Good Chimes Roll
Groups
Production
This album marks two important milestones for the Georgetown Chimes: our 21st official recording and 50 years at the Hilltop. Over this half century the Chimes have become a fixture on the Georgetown campus; Chimes Nights at the Tombs, and Cherry Tree Massacre, have, for many become unique parts of the Georgetown experience. From its barbershop roots the group has expanded over the years into ’50s and ’60s standards, old English and Irish traditionals, jazz, and most recently, pop. It is often taken as a point of pride that every Chime can sing the “old” songs that pre-date him, some of which come from the group’s founding in 1946. As a result, the repertory of the group does not so much change and revolve as it does grow and evolve in new directions. Today the active repertory consists of well over 200 songs, all still sung in the closest of harmony and by the closest of friends. It is in this context that we hope this album will be a commemoration—a tribute to our past—as well as a celebration of and statement about our future.
